Apple Dumplings

(serves 6)

                                                                                                                 Oven to 375*

1 1/2 cups Sugar

1 1/2 cups Water

1/4 Tsp Cinnamon

1/4 Tsp Nutmeg

10 drops of red food coloring (optional)

3 Tbs Butter

2 Cups Flour

2 Tsp Baking Powder

1 Tsp Salt

2/3 cup Shortening

1/2 cup Milk

For Surup combine sugar water food color and spices. Boil. remove from heat. add butter.

 

For pastry

Sift together dry ingredients, cut in shortening until resembles course crumbs.

Add Milk all at once. Stir just until flour is moistened. Roll out 1/4 inch thick.

Cut into 6 squares, place apples onto each square, sprinkel Generously with Cinnomon, sugar and nutmeg,

Dot with Butter, moisten edges and pinch together.

Place in baking dish 9x10. Pour surup over apples and bake for 35 min.

serve warm with Ice cream.
